Udupi, 30 October 2011: From now onwards the Lorries carrying fish from outer states will be banned from entering into Udupi, this was the decision taken in the City Minicipal Corporation meeting. In the CMC meeting on Saturday, it was all the talks about dirt and wastage disposal. The issues of the wastage problem of Raj Fish Mill Factory of Malpe, lack of system in disposal of dirty water from Manipal Hospital and the bad state of the drainage in Bailoor ward, were all raised in the meeting.

Malpe Fish Mill issue was debated twice in the meeting. This issue being political issue between BJP and Congress is also become public. BJP’s Mohan Upadhya raised this topic. M.R. Pai, Indira Shekar, Ravi Amin, Navin Bhandary, Vasanthi Shetty and others urged to take action against this factory. Protesting this Jayananda and Anandi of Congress opposed taking action on this factory which belongs to one of the leader of their party. At this time there was argument between the parties.

MLA K. Raghupathi Bhat who arrived at the end of the meeting, said that, the Grama Panchayaths such as Udyavara have taken strict preventive measures against any dripping of fish water on the roads from the lorries which are going to the Fish Mills there. City Municipality also should take similar action against the Lorries going to the Malpe Factory, he said. Ice fish water dripping from the Lorries carrying fish that are coming from Kerala is damaging the roads and also the environment, said Raghupathi Bhat.

If the Factory is closed then it will cause heavy loss to the local fishermen. So the factory should not be closed, but making some sacrifice for our fishermen is inevitable. But from this sacrifice the fish Lorries from Kerala need not benefit. So the fish Lorries coming from the outer states should be banned. This matter should be discussed with the Road Transport Department and district Administration to take appropriate action, Raghupathi Bhat put forward his proposal and the President of Municipal Corporation agreed to this.

The waste water from the hospital and Educational Institutions belonging to Manipal University is being released to the open drainage in the night and this smells and pollutes the environment. Many local wells of the residents have polluted from this, urged BJP’s Sumitra Nayak. Dinakar Shetty also supported this.

Replying to this President Kiran Kumar said that, we have already issued notice to the Manipal Educational Institutions on this issue, but still they are not taking any measures. Water is being supplied to them from Municipality, but since this is the basic requirement it cannot be stopped. So if they do not take necessary measures for the disposal of waste water, then the strict notice to be issued to them that the approval already issued for the new connection of electricity will be cancelled, he told Paurayuktha.

In the Bailoor ward represented by President Kiran Kumar there are 30 houses who release waste water to the open drainage, said Sthayee Samithi President Naveen Bhandary. Replying to this Kiran Kumar said that, a Congress leader had encouraged the people to release waste water and to conduct protest against the Municipality. The CMC will take proper action on this. The residents of the houses have to make their own arrangements for the disposal of waste water and should not release to the public drainage. On the dias Vice President Bharathi Chandrashekar and Paurayukta Gokuldas Nayak were also present.
