Karkala : Bike-borne chain snatcher arrested

Karkala, 26 September 2011: Karkala Police have arrested a chain snatcher in Karkala – Hebri Police Station jurisdiction. The arrested accused has been identified as Ranjit Poojary (24) from Shirva Grama. He along with another person Raju Shetty used to come on a motorcycle sped up, snatch chain from any lone woman walking on the road and flee. The other accused is Raju Shetty (25) a resident from Udupi Badagubettu Grama, who is absconding.

 

 
These accused were involved in the 3 chain robberies between 5th to 16th September. On 5th September these two came in a bike at Madamukki Grrama of Hebri Police Station jurisdiction and snatched a gold chain weighing 20 grams from the neck of Anganavadi Teacher Sugandi Shetty while she was walking on the road alone and fled.
 
On 12th September morning at 9.00 am these two had snatched the gold kariamani chain from the neck of a woman who was going to bring milk at Kalturu Pandukalla in Hebri. Similarly on 16th September these accused came in a the bike and robbed a old woman by name Appi Moolya and fled.
 
Because of these incidents, with the supervision of Karkala Circle Inspector S. Vijayaprasad, a special investigating team was formed and Hebri Station S.I. Santhosh Shetty with confirmed information arrested Ranjit Poojary in Muniyalu, Hebri. From the accused a motor bike, mobile phone, Rs. 9,000 cash, 1 gold kariamani, 1 disco chain and also 1 rolled gold kariamani chain have been taken into custody.
