Udupi, 25 May 2011: “In democracy system parents have the complete right to make a decision on the future of their young children. So the food which is not nutritious will be rejected. Government should make immediate arrangements for the Bisiyoota” urged Basruru Grama Panchayath President Vikas Hegde.

He was speaking addressing the state level protest organized by the Grama Panchayath Rights Andholan Samithi against the non nutritious food being supplied to the Anganavadi, in Kolkere in Kundapura. He said that our Supreme Court has already given the verdict that the food which is being supplied to the Anganavadi is not nutritious and this was even confirmed in the food test. But still the government is supplying the same food. So the people all over the state should wake up and fight for this cause.

Basruru Grama Panchayath member Abbas Byari spoke and said that since January we have rejected the food which is being supplied. Now locals are providing the nutritious food. This is costing less than the money is being spent by the government for their supplied food. Hence let the government provide the money for the food through the Grama Panchayath and we will locally make the arrangement for the food, he said.

Taluk Panchayath member Poornima Poojary who was present in the protest said that we will make honest efforts at Taluk Panchayath level for providing nutritious food. Shetty spoke on the occasion and said that parents and guardians should pay attention of their children. All Anganavadi of the state should get Bisiyoota. In the meeting it was decided that all Kundapura Taluk Anganavadi’s shall submit appeal to the government urging nutritious food through Deputy Commissioner.
