M’lore: Amma initiates ‘clean city’ campaign

Mangalore, 02 May 2011: Matha Amritanandamayi famed as Amma who is well known for her social service and spiritual activities, initiated ‘Clean Mangalore’ campaign as a part of her dream project ‘Amala Bharatam’ in the city on Sunday.

 

Amma who is in the city for two days to take part in Brahmasthana Mahotsava Mata Amritanandamayi Math, initiated the cleanliness drive in co-operation with the district administration on Sunday, to make the city as beautiful as Singapore in another one year. In her message to the public, she thrust on the necessity to keep oneself and the city clean.

 

 

She distributed hand kerchiefs and book marks with the theme of ‘cleanliness’ to the students of Amrita Vidyalayam.  Addressing the crowd who had gathered to seek her blessings, Amma asked her followers to love and preserve nature. She asked the people not to hand over the nature to the next generation in diapidated state. “We should love people and use objects, but unfortunately we are doing vice versa. That is why the social harmony and family relationships are on the verge of decay,” claimed. 

 

On spiritual note, she said spirituality and science are like two wings of a bird. They are inter related and can not survive in the absence of each other.

 

“If science can provide you an air conditioner to cool yourself from the heat, purely internal peace of mind is attained through spirituality. But then spirituality is not something unattainable, but it can be realised by any person through logical ways and inner experimentation,” stated Amma.

 

She also criticised the increased use of chemicals and fertlisers in farming sector. “We, humans are supposed to eat food for our appetite, but unfortunately we are consuming poison. This should be stopped,” she asserted.

 

Mayor Praveen presided over the function. District-in-Charge Minister Krishna J palemar, Deputy Speker N Yogish Bhat, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh, Deputy Commissioner Subodh Yadav also recived hugs from Amma on the occasion.

 

Compenastion to Endosulfan victims

 

To mark the event, Brahmasthana Mahotsava Samiti handed over compensation to 10 Endolsufan victims from Dakshina Kannada district. Priya, Bhavitha, Santhosh Minezes, Bharath and others received the compensation. Meanwhile, pensions were also distributed to 10 widows.
