Shirva: State Level Conference on Physical Education and Media Inaugurated

Shirva, 27 March 2011: “Media plays an important role in identifying the sports persons in the rural areas, so that they can grow into International level sports persons” said Kaup MLA Lalaji R. Mendon upon inaugurating the state level conference on the role of media on the development of sports, at Shirva M.S.R.S. College on Saturday.
“The sports persons of the rural areas are shining in International level these days. Ashwini Chidananda Shetty and Mamatha Poojary who won medals in Commonwealth games and Asian games are the sports persons of coastal area” said Lalaji R. Mendon.
Chief Gust A. V. Balakrishna Holla – Editor of Udayavani spoke on the occasion and said that, in identifying the talents the media is not making any bias, the media always provides all kind of encouragement and support to the talents.
Prof. L. R. Vaidyanathan – Retired Dean of Bangalore University in his speech said that the sports attract everyone. Among all the sports especially cricket is loved by most in our country. It is only the media which can take all the sports closer to the people, he said.
The program was presided over by K. Rajarama Shetty – Correspondent of Shirva Vidhyavardhaka Sangha. Subbayya Hegde – Secretary of Shirva Vidhyavardhaka Sangha and Dr. Nagalingappa – Physical Director of Mangalore University were also present on the occasion.
Coordinator of the conference Prof. Surendra Shetty gave an introductory speech. Prof. Baskar Shetty – Principal of Shirva M.S.R.S. College welcomed the guests and the gathering. Supreetha Shetty and Sandip Shetty compeered the program. Sharada M. proposed vote of thanks.
