Margaret Thatcher, ex-UK PM, dies of stroke aged 87

NEW DELHI, 08 Apr 2013 (TOI): Former British prime minister Margaret Thatcher has died in London following a stroke, her official spokesman Lord Bell said on Monday. Thatcher, 87, was suffering from health-related problems for the last few years.
Lord Bell said, "It is with great sadness that Mark and Carol Thatcher announced that their mother Baroness Thatcher died peacefully following a stroke this morning. A further statement will be made later."
Thatcher, Britain’s only woman prime minister, was known for her tough stand on governance and foreign policy issues that earned her the nickname "Iron Lady". During her tenure, Britain went to war with Argentina over the Falkland Islands in 1982, which Britain won and resulted in her re-election in 1983.
Major world events took place when she was in office including the tearing down of the Berlin Wall, and the end of the Cold War.
She was Britain’s prime minister from May 4, 1979 to November 28, 1990.
