Bharat Ratna likely for Vajpayee on birthday

 

New Delhi, Dec 09, 2014: The government may award Bharat Ratna to former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee on his 90th birthday on December 25.

 

Many BJP MPs have conveyed to the government that the party’s first prime minister should be conferred the highest civilian honour. The topic figured at BJP’s parliamentary meet on Tuesday too.

 

Vajpayee led the first NDA government as the 11th Prime Minister of India for 13 days in 1996 and then again from 1998 to 2004. He was also the first non-Congress leader to serve a full term as prime minister.

 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced that Vajpayee’s birthday will be observed as “Good Governance Day” every year.
