Three killed, five injured as tree falls on bus

Sangli, 15 Mar 2012: Three collegians were today killed and five others injured when an old tree fell on their college bus at Vishrambaug area on Sangli-Miraj Road, police said.

 

The deceased are identified as Ganesh Prayag (18), Amit Masal (19) and Asawari Kambale (18)--all students of Annasaheb Dange Engineering College, they said.

 

Police said condition of three out of five students injured in the incident is serious.

 

Police suspect that the tree might have collapsed following a fire set by some unknown persons at its trunk, perhaps last night.

 

It seems the fire was simmering the whole night and might have weakened the tree.

 

A total of 18 students were in the bus when the incident took place, police said.
