Sri Lanka win toss, elect to bat against Canada

Hambantota, 20 February 2011: Sri Lankan captain Kumar Sangakkara won the toss and elected to bat first in their opening Group A match against Canada in the cricket World Cup here on Sunday.

 

Sri Lanka left out fast bowlers Dilhara Fernando and Lasith Malinga for the opener while middle order batsman Chamara Silva has been ruled out for the opener due to a death in the family.

 

This is the first international match played at the venue.

 

Teams:

 

Sri Lanka: Kumar Sangakkara (C), Mahela Jayawardene, Tillakaratne Dilshan, Upul Tharanga, Thilan Samaraweera, Chamara Kapugedera, Angelo Mathews, Thisara Perera, Nuwan Kulasekara, Muttiah Muralitharan and Ajantha Mendis.

 

Canada: Ashish Bagai (C), Rizwan Cheema, Harvir Baidwan, Tyson Gordon, Henry Osinde, John Davison, Ruvindu Gunasekera, Khurram Chohan, Jimmy Hansra, Zubin Surkari and Balaji Rao.

 

Umpires: Shavir Tarapore (India) and Ian Gould (Eng)

 

Third Umpire: Tony Hill

 

Match Referee: Chris Broad.
