Udupi: Pastoral Council Formed in Udupi Diocese

Udupi, 28 Feb 2014: Bishop Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo inaugurated the first ever diocesan Pastoral Council of the newly-formed Udupi diocese at Bishop’s House here on Thursday February 27.

 
This was the final action in the series of bodies constituted for the administration of the diocese.  The finance Committees in the parish level, pastoral Committees in the parish and zonal level were the other participatory structures already constituted.

 

The diocesan Pastoral Council comprises members elected from zonal-level and a few nominated members. The duties of the diocesan Pastoral Council is to assist the bishop at the diocesan level.

 
Catholic Sabha former president Alphonse D’Souza was elected as the secretary of the Council for 3-year term.

 

Toppers in 10th Standard Catechism Examination Felicitated

A function to felicitate the toppers in the Diocesan Level X std. Catechism exam was organized at Udupi on 27 February at which 31 toppers were honoured. The students from all over the Udupi diocese participated in the felicitation programme along with their parents, catechism teacher and the parish priest.

The director of Divya Jyothi, Fr Chetan welcomed the guests, namely the Bishop Dr Gerald Lobo, Vicar General Msgr. Baptist Menezes, Fr Ronald Serrao, Fr Fred Mascarenhas and others.

 

Fr Ronald, Professor, St Joseph Seminary, Mangalore spoke on the ‘Responsibility of parents in teaching religion to their children’. The Bishop  felicitated the top scorers with a trophy and a certificate. The Vicar General too spoke on the occasion.
The students of St Cecily’s High School under the guidance of Sr Preethi performed a beautiful dance.
