Udupi: Bishop Dr Gerald I Lobo to allow Konkani Studies in Colleges from 2014 - 15

Udupi, 8 Dec 2013: Those who study from primary to degree studies in their mother tongue, likely to become great achievers.  The mother tongue Konkani tht is being learned at the lap of one’s mother will enable the child to easily understand the subject.  It would also leads to personality development, said Bishop Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo of Udupi diocese. 

 
Bishop Dr Gerald was speaking during ‘Konkani Sambram’ programme that was organized jointly by Konkani Prachar Sanchalan ® and Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy, at Our Lady of Sorrows parish auditorium, here on Friday December 6.

 
Bishop Dr Gerald welcomed the beginning of Konkani classes as second optional subject by Rosario Pre-University College, Mangalore and Pompeii College, Aikala, with effect from coming academic year.  He also announced to allow the Udupi diocesan-run colleges to introduce Konkani studies, announced Bishop Dr Gerald.

 

 
Udupi ZP president B Upendra Nayak in his chief guest’s said that there are nearly 40 native groups of Konkani speakers, while the diversity in unity and brotherhood that has been witnessed among them across the coastal district motivates others to live in harmony.  He also urged the students to make use of the facility of studying in Konkani that was granted by the state government.
 

Shirva – St Mary’s College principal Rajan, Kallianpur – Milagres College principal Professor Rajan, Kallianpur – Milagres College principal Nerri Cornelio expressed their wish to begin Konkani classes at their colleges.

 
Konkani Prachar Sanchalan president Roy Castelino welcomed the gathering.  The secretary Vitori Karkal compered the programme.  Konkani Academy registrar Dr Devdas Pai proposed vote of thanks.
