Udupi, 28 May 2012: The renovation work of Bhujanga Park in Udupi is almost complete. A sum of Rs one crore has been spent for the renovation of the park, which is spreading over four acres land.
To mark the platinum jubilee celebration of the City Municipal Council, the State Government had released Rs 25 crore as special grant. Using this fund, Rs one crore was set aside for renovation of the park and the work was handed over to Udupi Nirmiti Kendra.
The work commenced a year ago and now about 95 per cent of the work has been completed. Though there were plans to inaugurate the park within June, the election code of conduct in wake of Legislative Council elections has prevented the CMC from going ahead with its plan. With this, the Park will be inaugurated after June 15.
How is Park
The Park has well laid eight metre long walking path for the health conscious lot and the elderly. The entire path has been laid with interlocks. A total of 15 park benches have been installed all along the path.
A lush green spongy lawn had been laid to perfection here. “Mexican grass’ variety has been used for the lawn. Adequate number of sprinklers too has been placed in the middle of the lawn to water the grasses. Arrangements have been made to plant over 700 plants in the park of endemic species.
Stage set
The park has a huge stage built at one corner. The platform can be used by the general public for holding any programme. There is provision to place 1,500 chairs in front of the stage. Next to the stage, two green rooms and a toilet has been constructed. Since mesh has been installed between the stage area and the walking path, the walkers will not be disturbed by the programme in anyway and the vice-versa.
Nirmiti Kendra Chief Arun Kumar said that only some minor work is pending at the Park, which will be completed in couple of weeks.
However, people have already started using the Park, without waiting for the inauguration. This is a positive sign, which indicates that the number of users will only go up with the inauguration.
