Off seasonal rain in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi District

Mangalore, 24 February 2011: There was good rain in the early hours of Wednesday 01.30 am to 03.00 am at Hejamadi, Mulki, Surathkal, Kinnigoli, Kateel, Belthangadi and some parts of Udupi District. Guthigar of Sulya Taluk had medium rain on Tuesday night. Subrahmanya, Enekallu areas had dark clouds on Wednesday evening followed by medium rain.

 

 

 

The off seasonal rain has caused troubles to betel nut producing farmers. The betel nut which was spread in the yards for drying has become either wet or gone with the rain water. Since the wet betel nut would spoil quickly it cannot be stored for longer.

 

 

 

Besides, now it is the time for the flower seeding for mango and cashew. But with these off seasonal rains would cause problems and would also affect the market rates. All these have caused worries to the farmers.
