DK and Udupi set for International Day of Yoga
Mangaluru / Udupi, 21 Jun 2015: Undevided Dakshina Kannada district is all set to observe the first International Day of Yoga on Sunday, June 21 at various places.
The United Nations General Assembly on December 14, 2014 declared June 21 as the International Day of Yoga. Accordingly across yoga will be performed across India by volunteers representing various organisations and associations.
Nearly 4,600 NCC cadets would do yogasanas in Mangaluru, Moodbidri, Ujire and Manipal.
The government would observe the day at TMA Pai International Convention Centre here at 8.30 a.m. Minister in-charge of Dakshina Kannada B. Ramanath Rai would inaugurate the event which will see a participation of 600 volunteers including students, government officials, members of youth and sports clubs.
Dakshina Kannada unit of the BJP has organised yogasanas at Moodbidri, Bajpe, Belthangady, Puttur, Uppinangady, Bettampady, Vitla, Sajeepa, Kodical, Kulai, Arkula. Adyar, Kolya and its district office at PVS Circle in the city.
Vishwa Yoga Dinacharana Samithi, Dakshina Kannada would conduct the yogasana performance at Sanghaniketan, Mannagudda from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Nalin Kumar Kateel, Member of Parliament would inaugurate it.
Mangalore University would also observe the day at 11 a.m. There would be common yoga practice for half an hour followed by demonstration of asanas. Vice-Chancellor K. Byrappa would be present on the occasion.
Yoga day in Udupi
The Departments of Sports and Youth Empowerment and AYUSH, is organising the International Yoga Day at the District Indoor Stadium in Udupi at 7 a.m. on Sunday. Urban Development Minister Vinay Kumar Sorake would inaugurate it.
The Central Council for Research in Yoga and Naturopathy under the Department of AYUSH, Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, and Nehru Yuva Kendra would be organising a workshop on Yoga at Divine Park in Saligrama village on Sunday. MLC Kota Srinivas Poojary will preside over the inaugural function.
The Udupi district unit of the BJP will organise the Yoga Day celebrations at the Sheshashayana Hall in Udupi from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. on Sunday.
