SUPERNOVA 2014 - Fresher’s Day at St Joseph Engg College

Mangalore, 3 Sep 2014: The annual Fresher’s Day was celebrated at St Joseph Engineering College (SJEC), here during the function held at College auditorium, academic block II, here on Saturday August 30.  It was organized by anti-ragging and disciplines Committee and hosted by students of II BE.

 

Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts deputy commissioner of excise George Pinto was the chief guest of the occasion.

 

SJEC designated-director Fr Ajith Menezes presided the function.

 

SJEC assistant director Fr Rohith D’Costam principal, Dr Joseph Gonsalvis and vice principal Dr Rio D’Souza was present at the dais.

 

Dr Rio D’Souza welcomed the gathering and introduced the chief guest Mr George Pinto. 

 

II BE mechanical student Vicky Vaswelcomed the Freshers of I BE and I BE student Michelle Serraospoke in response to the welcome, on behalf of the first year students.

 

Speaking on the occasion, Pinto advised students to be serious about their studies in order to fulfil their dreams. He mentioned the 3 D’s required in life – desire, dedication, and discipline. He particularly urged students not to get involved in anti-social activities as that would affect their lives and future career.

 

 

Fr Ajith Menezes, described the first year students as the youngest and most precious among the SJEC family. He advised the students to remain focused on their goals and work hard to achieve them.

 

The event convener Vinod T D’Souza proposed vote of thanks. The mechanical engineering lecturer Amitha Moraes compered the programme.

 

The formal function was followed by the cultural events. II EEE student Winston Nazareth and II CS student Mabel compered the cultural programme which began with a welcome act by the second year students. It was followed by competitive cultural events organized by all 9, first year classes.

 

Fr Rohith D’Costa, students’ welfare and alumni affairs dean Dr Vincent Crasta and humanities lecturer Sunitha Pereira were the jurors of competitions.
