Bangalore: 19-year-old girl alleges gang-rape
- Police say ‘victim’ giving conflicting versions
Bangalore, 02 Feb 2013 (DHNS): A 19-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped near the railway track in Kadugondanahalli police limits Thursday night.
According to a complaint lodged by the girl, a resident of Kariyannapalya, the incident occurred while she was proceeding to her sister’s house in Shivajinagar at around 10.15 pm. She told the police that three youths raped her near a bush when she was crossing the tracks to board a bus near Charles School in Lingarajpuram.
The girl said the suspects chased her as she started running towards a safer place. She reached a masjid at Pillanna Garden at around 11 pm, she claimed.
According to the victim, a few local people contacted her father, a scrap dealer, and informed him about the incident. She claimed that she could identify a suspect who frequented her locality over the past few days. Police said they recovered a banned substance at the crime scene.
According to police, the girl was shifted to Bowring Hospital for medical examination.
The doctors said preliminary investigation revealed that the girl was sexually assaulted and the samples collected had been sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory for further examination.
Police said the girl had an affair with a youth named Asghar and had eloped with him on several occasions.
“Initially, she alleged that she was gang-raped and then claimed it was just an attempt. Later, she said she was neither raped nor was there any attempt, but she was only assaulted. She is mentally unstable,” said an investigating officer.
Police suspect that the culprits and the victim were under the influence of drugs.
