Bangalore: Young Stadium Soccer ‘B’ beat BSSF to lift Clarks Trophy

Bangalore, 16 Jul 2013: Young and promising Stadium Soccer ‘B’ (known as Phantoms) beat a powerful Bangalore Schools Sports Foundation (BSSF) in an exciting final of the Hotel Clarks Exotica by a single goal in the 5 a side football tournament played at Swiss Town, Bangalore.
The tournament sponsored by Ronald Colaco of Clarks Exotica Hotel along with Columbia Asia Hospitals was an astounding success with 24 teams taking part. Teams included Super Feet, Flying Horses, Stadium Soccer ‘B’, Reds, Offside, Rebels, Sam’s Stars, Anti Virus, Huddlesford Athletic, Dream United, DPS-2, Alcatel, BSSF, DPS-1, Aztecs, Al Fateh, JPFC, Sam’s Strikers, Stadium Soccer ‘A’, Stallions, Christ College, Holy Rosary Church, DNI Hometheatre and Godrej.
After the league stage, 8 teams qualified for the quarter finals and in the semi finals Stadium Soccer ‘B’ beat Huddlesford Athletic in an exciting tie breaker while in the second semi final BSSF prevailed over Stadium Soccer ‘A’. It was a bitter fight in the finals where the young and energetic Stadium Soccer boys managed to squeeze through with a single goal to beat the more experienced BSSF boys. The winners were rewarded with Rs.15000 plus trophy while the runners up received Rs.10000 and the trophy.
The Stadium Soccer Academy is a part of Stadium Sports Foundation which is a 5 year old non profit sports development registered trust based in Bangalore. They focus on bringing a social change through football and developing long term possibilities for talented youngsters to excel in the game of football. The Academy is run under Arun Bhatt and hopes to churn out players who will turn out for the country eventually.
One of the finest tournaments organised by veteran sports specialist Denzil Fernandes which won all round praise for the brilliant manner in which the tournament was conducted. All participating teams were delighted with the arrangements and will be back again for yet another day of exciting football action.
Other awards were: Best Goalkeeper: Lokesh (Stadium Soccer ‘B’), Best Defender:Kiran (BSSF), Best Forward:Amit (Stadium Soccer ‘B’, Best Midfielder:Leone Raul (BSSF) and Best Promising Player:Tanmay (Flying Horses)
