Udupi: Medical Artist P N Acharya of Manipal Privileged of Great Honour from American University

Udupi, 5 Mar 2013: The veteran artist P N Acharya is privileged of great honour by an American University that has published the pictures of anatomy of dogs and cats drawn by him.

Dr M S A Kumar, veterinary clinician of India origin settled in America has authored the book titled Clinical Oriented Anatomy of Dog and Cat that was published by American Gupt University.  Dr Kumar said, ‘It’s for the first time that an Indian artist has gotten a chance for the first time ever, to draw anatomical chart of such kind,’ said Dr Kumar.

The book has 1,614 pages that have 2,342 pictures drawn by P N Acharya.  The anatomy of dog and cat is painted in clarity.  A few of them were drawn with a combination of lines while majority were delicate paintings.

 

 

When Dr Kumar was vacationing in New Delhi, someone recommended Acharya as the right choice for drawing the art.  Dr Kumar wrote several letters to Acharya while the latter did not take it seriously.  In one of the letters, Dr Kumar invited Acharya to come to USA in order to complete the assignment.  Meanwhile, Acharya accepted the offer to go ahead with the assignment at his home located in Manipal here.   

Dr Kumar used to e-mail the background of anatomical aspects and Acharya would create art work.  It took nearly 2 years to complete the assignment. Acharya has got further orders from 2 American Universities in order to supply arts since they are convinced of the precision of art that is etched in A4 size paper. 

  
Acharya is a member of Art Academy who was renowned for art works based on mythological episodes, besides general painting.  He was trained in medical art and retired from Manipal University as medical artist.

 

 ‘The assignment was indeed a challenging and test of perseverance in my life,’ said Acharya.
