New Delhi, 15 May 2011: UPA chief Sonia Gandhi on Sunday reached out to AIADMK chief Jayalalithaa and congratulated her on the Tamil Nadu election victory.

Sonia Gandhi has also extended an invited to the soon-to-be new chief minister for tea in New Delhi. This could be a new strategy by the Congress to distance itself from the 2G tainted ally DMK.

It is a significant move though, as not all winning leaders have been invited in this manner. There is no word from the AIADMK chief yet but she is to meet the governor on Sunday to stake the claim to form the new government in Tamil Nadu.

Jayalalithaa is likely to take oath on May 16.
