CWG scam: CBI arrests Suresh Kalmadi’s PA

Pune, 11 February 2011: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested former Commonwealth Games Organising Committee chairman Suresh Kalmadi’s personal assistant Shekhar Deorukhkar in Pune. Deorukhkar has been produced before the Shivaji Nagar court with the CBI seeking his transit remand.
He has been arrested in connection with the Commonwealth Games scam.Kalmadi was sacked as the chairman of Commonwealth Games Organising Committee on January 24. The decision to remove Kalmadi was taken by Union Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs Ajay Maken in the interest of impartial investigation into the alleged cases of corruption related to Commonwealth Games.
Maken said that Kalmadi had been sacked following CBI’s recommendations to act against him. Kalmadi has already been questioned by the CBI.
Three aides of Kalmadi - TS Darbari, M Jayachandran and Sanjay Mohindroo - were arrested and bailed out after 60 days in prison because the CBI didn’t file a chargesheet against them.
