Mysore: Yuvajanotsav, 9th Regional Christian Youth Convention begins

Mysore/M’lore, 26 Oct 2014: Yuvajanotsav - the ninth Karnataka Regional Christian Youth Convention was inaugurated at St Philomena College grounds here on Friday October 24 by hoisting flags of Indian, Vatican and Karnataka Regional Christian Youth Commission.
Karnataka Regional Christian Youth Commission executive Committee members along with Mysore diocesan president inaugurated the convention by hoisting 3 flags in due respect.
The state revenue minister Srinivas Prasad was the chief guest of the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, the minister Srinivas Prasad said, ‘Christianity is the light of the world. Through the service it has spread the message of Jesus Christ. It’s the Christian missionaries who made education available to everyone. Their role in spreading the education is remarkable,’ said minister Srinivas Prasad.
Bishop of Bellary Dr Henry D’Souza called upon the youth to actively involved in the convention.
Bishop Dr Henry said, ‘In the future, we need Grains and the Brains and not the Guns and the Bombs. We should work to take up leadership in the society and spread the message of Christ.
The minister Srinivas Prasad and Mysore district-in-charge minister M N Somshekar were felicitated on the same occasion.
MLC Ivan D’Souza, CBCI Youth Commission national secretary Fr Franklin D Souza, CCBI national secretary Fr Elias OFM, ICYM national council advisor Raymond D Souza, KRCBC Youth Commission secretary Fr Mari Joseph, Mysore diocesan youth director Fr Antony Raj, KRCBC Youth Commission joint secretary Sr Irene Tauro Joint secretary, PRP Fr K A William, St Philomena College principal Fr Leslie Moras, vice principal Fr Bernard Prakash, Mysore diocesan ICYM president Anthony Robert were present on the dais.
The theme song followed talk by MLC Ivan D’Souza soon after the stage programme.
The convention commenced with solemn Eucharistic Celebration presided by Mysore Bishop Dr Thomas Vazhapilly, along with KRCBC Youth Commission Bishop Dr Henry D’Souza, Tellicherry designated Archbishop Fr George Nijaralakatt, and other co-celebrants.
More than 1,400 youths form 14 dioceses of Karnataka are participating in this youth convention.
Fr Antony Raj welcomed the gathering. Martin proposed the vote of thanks. Vivian Veigas and Maria compered the programme.
The convention with the theme ‘Joy of the Gospel to enlighten and Enliven’ will be held 3-day.
Over 10,000 youth from across Karnataka are expected to witness the valedictory function.
