Moodbidri: Happy Club of Puttige Padav celebrates New Year in Unique way

Moodbidri, 7 Jan 2014: New Year celebrations are usually meant for merrymaking while its indeed noteworthy that the enterprising youth of remote village like Puttige Padav near here are celebrating New Year under the banner Happy Club, by organizing sports competitions for all age groups regardless of caste, creed and faith, besides felicitating the extraordinary rural achievers in their neighbourhood, said the state fisheries and youth sports minister Abayachandra Jain.
The minister Abayachandra Jain was speaking during the New Year celebrations of Happy Club, Puttige Padav, near here on Wednesday January 1.
The retired Indian army Hawaldar Lancy Mendar who fought in Kargil war was felicitated on the same occasion, along with Handeli Primary School Class V student Harsha Kotian who represented India in international Karate competition held at Kandy, Sri Lanka recently and bagged top prize.
Happy Club president Uday Puttige in his introductory address said that Happy Club was launched by likeminded youngsters 4 years ago and have been celebrating New Year in an unique way. They have been organizing sports competitions for all age groups, felicitating retired teachers, social activists, armed personnel, sports and cultural talent. The local community also supports that has furthered their interest, said Uday.
ZP member Sunita Sucharita Shetty, TP member Prakash P, Puttige gram panchayat president Umanat Karkera and others were present.
The local children presented variety cultural shows, besides Mangalore-based Janani theater group presented Tulu play, ‘Yenna Chikkamma,’ as part of entertainment programme.
