Udupi : Rev. Dr John Mendonca of Udupi Diocese Elected Vice President of CLSI

Udupi, 07 Nov 2013 : At the 27th Annual Conference of the Canon Law Society of India (CLSI), Rev. Dr John Mendonca, the Judicial Vicar of Udupi Diocese was elected as the Vice-President for a period of two years. Rev. Dr John Mendonca is the parish priest of Kanajar parish.
The 27th Annual Conference of the Canon Law Society of India (CLSI) was held from the 21st to 25th Oct. 2013 at the Salesian Provincial House, New Delhi. 118 canonists from all over the country participated and deliberated on the “Influence of Vatican II in the making of the Codes of Canon Law (CIC and CCEO)”. His Eminence, Raymond Cardinal Burke, the Prefect of the Supreme Tribunal of the Apostolic Signatura, Vatican, inaugurated the Conference and delivered the inaugural as well as keynote addresses. His Grace Archbishop Salvatore Pennachio, Apostolic Nuncio to India graced the occasion and gave a benedictory address while His Grace Archbishop Anil Joseph Couto of Delhi Archdiocese delivered presidential address. Half a dozen renowned canonists spoke at length on different aspects of the same topic. Two Parliamentarians, Mr. Oscar Fernandes and Prof. K.V. Thomas spoke as Christian MPs on the government policies and Hon’ble Justice Shri Kurian Joseph, Judge, Supreme Court of India stressed upon “justice and equity” in our constitution.
On the penultimate day of the Conference, at the General Body Meeting the following office bearers were elected for a period of two years:

Vice President: Rev. Dr. John Mendonca, Udupi Diocese
Secretary: Rev. Dr. Irudaya Raj S., Archdiocese of Calcutta
Treasurer: Rev. Fr. John Mohandas, Archdiocese of Calcutta
Executive Committee Members: Rev. Dr. Varghese Koluthara CMI, Dharmaram, Bengaluru and Rev. Dr. John Abraham, St. Peter’s Pontifical Institute, Bangaluru.
The newly elected members took charge of the CLSI on the last day of the conference at the solemn Eucharistic Celebration. The newly elected office bearers whole heartedly thanked the outgoing incumbents for their tireless and generous service for the welfare and development of the Canon Law Society of India.
