Hassan, 9 Aug 2013: ‘A Congress manifesto implementation committee has been set up, chaired by union defence minister A K Antony as the president and all the leaders including the chief minister as it members. The Committee has been formed with an intention to fulfill the promises made by Congress during the assembly elections,’ said veteran Congress leader Janardhan Poojary.
Addressing the media persons during the press meet held at the office of Dakshina Kannada District Congress Committee (DCC), here on Friday August 9, Poojary said, ‘Due to areca plantations are infested with rotten diseases, many growers are facing several hardships, therefore, through this manifesto implementation Committee, we will ask the government to clear off their debt,’ said Janardhan.
‘In addition, we will also see to it that the rule requiring minimum 10 cents of land to build a house is scraped. All the promises, we made will be fulfilled in a span of 5 years as we cannot do it in just one year,’ clarified Janardhan.
Commenting on the proposed Niddodi project, Poojary said it is the child of BJP and that the Congress is going ahead with it with a good intention. ‘Our government has agreed as we have given importance to solving electricity problem, said Janardhan.
Janardhan further said, ‘Though the government’s intention is good, the effect on environment and people seemed high. Therefore, we strongly oppose the project as it is our duty to respond to people’s problems. I will also ask the CM to drop this plan,’ stressed Janardhan.
About reports of a pact between the JDS and BJP in the upcoming Lok Sabha by-polls in Mandya and Bangalore rural constituencies, Janardhan questioned the intentions of JDS and said, ‘JDS has never spoken truth. By joining hands with the BJP, they have proved that only power is important to them,’ said Janardhan.
During the press meet, while interacting with the media, a representative from the media queried Poojary on the Niddodiy issue. Poojary evaded the question which prompted the person to walk out from the press meet.
The party leaders Deepak Poojary, Radhakrishna, Naveen D’Souza, Shashidar Hegde, Lancelot Pinto, T K Sudheer and others were present during the press meet.
