Udupi: RFID cards to replace concession coupons in city buses from August 1

Udupi, 10 Jul 2013: The Udupi City Bus Owners Association will form a multi-purpose co-operative society to facilitate smooth availability of financial services to its members.
The inauguration of the Udupi Bus Owners’ Multi-purpose Co-operative Society will be held at the Town Hall here at 11.30 am on July 13, said Kuyiladi Suresh Nayak, chief secretary of the association. The society will provide services like daily pygmy deposit schemes, savings accounts and loans for the purchase of vehicles and gold loan among others.
The banking division will be inaugurated by district in-charge minister Vinay Kumar Sorake and the spare parts division will be inaugurated by transport minister Ramalinga Reddy. The society will function out an office in Padmashali building, Adi Udupi.
Nayak said that to minimize the expenditure on procurement of spare parts of the buses, the spare parts will be made available to bus owners at a minimum price under a co-operative policy. Spare parts of Ashok Leyland a, Tata brand will be made available.
He added that the ticket vending machine will be introduced in all the city buses from August 1.
The Radio Frequency Information Determination (RFID) mechanism will replace the current coupon system for passengers to avail concession and this facility will also kick start from August 1, he added.
Regular passengers, who seek concession on the prices of ticket, can submit their application forms at centers opened in city bus stand, Manipal (Annapoorna Hotel), Santhekaatte and Malpe.
Students can also apply for RFID cards to avail the concession.
The usage of the RFID card is limited to specified routes mentioned in the application forms. While students can commute any number of time and the money gets deducted from their account for every trip, other passengers can commute only once to and fro.
Directors of the society, Sudhakar K Kalmady, Krishna Anchan, Mohammed Saleem, Shantharam Shetty, Dayanand D, Sandip K, Vadiraj D S and others were present at the press conference.
