Kundapur, 8 May 2013: The independent candidate Halady Srinivas Shetty won the assembly elections defeating Congress candidate Malyady Shivaram Shetty with a margin of 40,611 votes.
Despite the Congress wave felt across the state, the victory of Halady Srinivas Shetty indeed surprised the voters. Haladi Srinivas Shetty secured 80,563 votes. While Congress candidate Malyady Shivaram secured 39,952 votes and BJP candidate Kishore Kumar secured 14,524 votes. JDS indirectly supported Halady Srinivas without contesting the assembly elections.
The jubilant supporters of Halady Srinivas celebrated the victory by bursting firecrackers in the main streets here and took grand procession in the town.
Many BJP members who had won in the recently held Municipality elections under BJP symbol openly supported Haladi and took walkathon to houses without fear to garner support and requested the people to vote for him. If BJP High Command takes a serious action, there is chance that the scene will change at the Town Assembly for sure.
Haladi Srinivasa has now elected as independent MLA and Kundapur Town assembly having equal membership by both parties now Haladi has to chose one party which will determine the state of the Kundapur Town Assembly. However, if he chooses to side with BJP he might lose his stand.
Great news... Happy to note that a honest , sincere and most effective politician has won with a huge margin. It proves that we still have committed politicians around us to take care irrespective of their party affilitation. It is heartening to see the winning margins as an independant candidate. Hope to see much more intitative for development of the constituency. Congrats Sir !!!
