Mangalore: Padua College of Commerce and Management Inaugurated

Mangalore, 25 November 2011: In a well attended function and in the presence of dignitaries, guests and students, the newly established Padua College of Commerce and Management was inaugurated and blessed on Friday, November 25, 2011 at 3 pm.
Prior to the function, Most Rev. Dr. Aloysius P. D’Souza, Bishop of Mangalore and President of the Catholic Board of Education (CBE) was received at the entrance by Rev. Fr. Antony Serrao, Correspondent of Padua Educational Institutions, Fr. Michael Santhumayor-Principal of the College and other dignitaries. He was also accorded the guard of honour by the NCC cadets. Later, the Bishop and other dignitaries were ushered to the front of the stage through procession accompanied by the school band.
The college students presented welcome dance following which the dignitaries were invited to the dais for the stage function that was presided over by the Bishop. The dignitaries on the dais included Prof. T.C. Shivashankara Murthy-Vice Chancellor of Mangalore University, Capt. Ganesh Karnik-member of the Karnataka Legislative Council, Gopal Bhandari-MLA of Karkala, Rev. Fr. Wilson D’Souza-Secretary of CBE, Rev. Fr. Peter Noronha-former Correspondent, Rev. Fr. Antony Serrao-present Correspondent, Mrs. Roopa D. Bangera-Corporator of the Padavu Ward, Fr. Michael Santhumayor-Principal of the Padua College, Ronald Walder-Vice President of the Partish Pastoral Council, Francis D’Souza, Headmaster of the Padua High School, Mrs. Alice Noronha-Headmistress and Mrs. Lavina Joan-Secretary of the Parish Pastoral Council.
Rev. Fr. Antony Serrao welcomed the guests on the dais with bouquets. The Bishop along with the Chief Guest, Prof. T.C. Shivashankara Murthy-Vice Chancellor of Mangalore University and other dignitaries on the dais lighted the lamp formally commencing the function as the student choir sang prayer hymns.
Following a brief prayer service appropriate for the occasion, the dignitaries on the dais proceeded to the new college building. Rev. Fr. Peter Noronha inaugurated the new college building by cutting the ribbon. Gopal Bhandari inaugurated the Padua Hall on the ground floor following which the Bishop blessed the new building. Rev. Fr. Wilson D’Souza inaugurated the computer lab in the basement; Mrs. Roopa D. Bangera inaugurated the classrooms; Prof. T.C. Shivashankar inaugurated the college office and Capt. Ganesh Karnik inaugurated the library.
Prof. T.C. Shivashankar-Vice Chancellor of Mangalore University formally inaugurated the Padua College of Commerce and Management by unveiling the college name that was covered by yellow strip of cloth. The College has started functioning since the beginning of the academic year 2011-12 with First Year BCom and First Year BBM.
The function covered three programmes-Inauguration of the Degree College and New College building and the Annual Day Celebrations of all the Padua Educational Institutions. Following the programme of the inauguration of the new building and college, Headmaster, Francis D’Souza read out in brief the reports of all the institutions right from the primary to the college section.
Following the messages from dignitaries, Chief Guest and the Bishop, the students from different sections presented variety entertainment programmes.
