Mangalore: Moodubelle to host the Prestigious ‘Kavita Fest 2012’

Mangalore, 28 September 2011: The Prestigious Kavita Fest, an annual event which brings Konkani poets, writers and readers from various states under one roof, will be held on Sunday, January 8, 2012 in Moodubelle, at the late Monnu Master’s courtyard in Kattingeri.

Poets from Goa, Kerala, Mumbai, Middle East and from Karnataka are expected to attend this event, which is being held for the sixth time in succession.
Kavita Fest was first held at Kalaangann in the year 2007 and thereafter at St Aloysius College, Shanti Kiran Bajjodi, Barkur and Nakre-Karkal. Eminent poets and writers like Jayant Kaikini, Vaidehi, Pundalik Naik, Anant Amembal, Yousuf Sheikh and Vivek Shanbhaug have so far attended this unique gathering.
Kavita Fest is a unique and prestigious festival of poetry organised by Kavita Trust which works for the promotion of Konkani poetry. The forthcoming festival will be held in association with Bellevision, an organisation of people from Moodubelle working and residing in the Middle East, especially in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

An organising committee has been formed already in order to make necessary preparations and conduct the Kavita Fest 2012. The committee members are Ronald Saby D’Souza, Dr Eugene D’Souza, Mrs. Meera Lobo, Anil Alva, Subhash Marne, Valerian Alva, Elias D’Souza, Peter Paul Lobo and Raphael Aranha.
Kavita Fest 2012 will be a day-long event that will be organised on Sunday, January 8, 2012 from 10 am to 7 pm. Apart from the colourful inauguration ceremony, there will be a seminar on poetry, multi lingual poetry session, finals of ’Rohan and Lavita Monteiro - All India Konkani Reading Competition’, and a folk performance from a troupe from Northeast India.
During the concluding ceremony, ‘Mathias Family Kavita Award’ will be bestowed on a poet and the prizes for ’The Late Charles and Theresa Memorial - All India Konkani Poetry Writing Competition’ for students will be distributed.
Free food will be arranged at the venue for poetry enthusiasts attending this event and accommodation will be arranged for delegates coming from distant places like Goa, Kerala, Mumbai, Bangalore, Mysore and other states.
