Mumbai, 30 October 2010: With the Adarsh society scam throwing up the name of the Maharashtra Chief Minister in its net, we now have another minister in his cabinet, Narayan Rane, accused of land grab.
The Bombay High Court on Friday stayed the sale of 76 acres of land in Mahabaleshwar, after it was allegedly sold to Maharashtra Revenue Minister Narayan Rane’s wife Nilima.
The trust, Shri Kshetra Mahabaleshwar Devasathan Trust, has claimed that over 20,000 square feet of its land in a prime area in Mahabaleshwar was sold to Rane’s wife after changes were made in the property records by a desk officer in the revenue department.
A division bench of Chief Justice Mohit Shah and Justice Dhananjay Chandrachud asked the parties to maintain status quo on the land and not undertake any development on the property.
"The beneficiary of the order (making modifications to the property record) by the revenue department is the wife of the minister for revenue and this leads to an irresistible conclusion that the decision was vitiated by mala fide intentions," said advocates Nitin Jamdar and Vijay Killedar, lawyers for the trust.
