New Delhi, 06 July 2011: Air India has approached the government to recover money owed on VVIP operations. The government owes Air India Rs 1,222 crore for the year 2010-2011.

Air India dedicated five Boeing 747-400 to be used for VVIP operations and wanted to sell these aircraft, which are fuel guzzlers, in 2009.

In 2009, the aircraft would have fetched Air India $ 30 million. Today the prices of these aircraft have dropped to $ 15 million.
