Mangalore: Customs at City Airport seize Gold worth Rs 43 Lac in a Single Day

Mangalore, 22 Feb 2014: The officers of Customs at Mangalore International Airport seized gold totally weighing 1399.650 grams in three separate cases totally valued at Rs 43,38,915.
In the first case, the officers seized 10 (Ten) gold pieces, totally weighing 933.140 grams and valued at Rs.28,92,734 concealed in an emergency light and a rechargeable LED flash light from the possession of a passenger named Mehazabin Rumana who is a resident of 8-166, 8th Block, Chokkabettu, Katipalla, Suratkal, Mangalore and arrived at Mangalore International Airport (MIA) on Saturday February 22 at about 05.30 hours by Jet Airways fight 9W531 from Dubai. The said passenger was arrested later and produced before the Magistrate.
In the second case, the officers seized 6 gold pieces, totally weighing 233.250 grams and valued at Rs 7,23,075 concealed in the underwear of a passenger named Ahmed Kabeer Moideen Kunhi, who is a resident of Chattanchal Kaniyadukkam, Shereef Manzil, Thekkil Post, Chengala Via, Kasargod District of Kerala and arrived at MIA on Saturday February 22 at about 07.30 hours by Air India Express (AIE) flight IX814 from Dubai.
In the third case, the officers seized 6 gold pieces, totally weighing 233.260 grams and valued at Rs 7,23,106 concealed in the underwear of a passenger named Hassainar Kombanadukkam Ismail, who is a resident of, 2/3, (VII/34), Kombanadukkam House, Post Chemnad, Kasargod District of Kerala and arrived at MIA on Saturday February 22 at about 07.30 hours by AIE flight IX814 from Dubai.
Operations were conducted under the supervision of Krishna Kumar Prasad, Assistant Commissioner of Customs, Mangalore International Airport. Further investigation is under progress in the above said cases, under the guidance of Commissioner D Purushotham.
