Govt college teachers will have biometric attendance
Mangalore, 29 Sep 2013: For accountability, the department of collegiate education (DCE), Mangalore region, is all set to introduce biometric attendance system for lecturers. Equipped with face recognition as one of its features, the system will be launched in 32 first-grade colleges in Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Kodagu districts by the end of October.
After face recognition, the device collects and consolidates data which can be accessed by the DCE, sources said. Face recognition will reduce the possibility of proxy attendance, said sources.
The staff gets a unique identity which they have to enter in the device while entering and exiting the college premises. The biometric system helps in automation of attendance of teachers and can help track the log in and lot out time of staff. Currently, many government colleges under the Mangalore education department have biometric device which recognizes fingerprints.
Sources said the move was necessitated after a recent Lokayukta direction to the higher education department and DCE. The directive came in the wake of complaints from a government degree college. Sources said funds have been released to install the new systems. The process of installing new machines will start soon.
