Mangalore, 28 Jul 2013: Expressing the problems faced by the students regarding the Carry-Over system, All college students association staged a protest in front of the Deputy Commissioner Office today.
State President and Legal advisor Dinakar Shetty demanding extension of Carry-Over System for the courses, said that more than 80% of the students cannot continue their courses because of the present system. Under the present system, students could go to the next class only if they pass a certain minimum number of subjects. This has created problems for students. Two years ago the carryover system allowed students to continue even if they failed in 10 subjects for semester three and five. But since last year, it has been changed to only four subjects. In all other streams except diploma, the carryover system is applicable. Many diploma students are facing problems because of the change in syllabus.
While more than 80% of the students cannot attend next semester because of the changes in the carryover system. Due to this many students have been deprived from pursuing their education.
He further said that, "the Health and Family welfare minister U T Khader has also discussed the carryover system with the higher education minister which is commendable. In our district there are Four ministers, Eight MLA’s and one MP but no one is listening to our plea." He urged the concerned authority to take up this carryover system seriously and allow the students to continue their education.
Students raised slogans against the previous Government and DTE for implementing changes in the carryover system in the Diploma examinations. The students urged the present government to look into this matter and make necessary changes in the carryover system.
