Udupi: MLA Raghupathi Bhat Offers ’Baagina’ to Swarna River

Udupi, 29 August 2012: Thanksgiving offered to city’s lifeline Suvarna river on Tuesday by people led by the political leaders near Sheembra temple. Like in the last 3 – 4 years Suvarna river has provided the drinking water to Udupi city this year also. On behalf of the people of city Udupi MLA Rabhupathi Bhat offered thanksgiving to Suvarna river. Speaking to the media MLA K. Raghupathi Bhat said that, the water is brought into the city after building the dam at Baje. But this time we faced the shortage of water.
In order to solve this water shortage problem permanently, a barrage bridge will be constructed at Kolalgiri – Parai. The cost of this project is estimated to rupees 20 crores. Already water department has conducted survey on this. The water from the barrage will be sent to the water desalination plant at Manipal and then will be supplied to Udupi city said MLA K. Raghupathi Bhat. On this occasion Municipal Vice President Bharathi Chandrashekar and Taluk Panchayath President Devadas Hebbar were also present. Vasudeva Bhat and Harikeishna Shivathaya coordinated the program.
Since many years Dr. V.S. Acharya who was the district in charge minister was offering the thanksgiving. Accordingly the current district in charge minister Kota Srinivasa Poojary was suppose to make the offerings this time. But the minister arrived few minutes late, so without waiting for him MLA made the offering himself. Arriving to the place few minutes later the minister offered prayers at the local temple and received the appeals by the Kolalgiri residents for the bridge to Suvarna river, before returning back.
