Shirva: “Aatid Onji Dina” traditional meet of women

Shirva, 10 August 2011: Shirva Mahila Mandala, which is one of the leading Associations of the district, often conducts varieties of programs in their area, thus always involve themselves in the social activities. The women’s traditional games – meet - food “Aatid Onji Dina” conducted by them reflected the significance of the month of “Aati” which is a Tulu folklore tradition. Various food items, games of Tulunadu, poetic questions on Ashada – Shravana months and the related activities were all part of this celebration which was conducted under the leadership of Mahila Mandala President Babitha Arus.
Special guest of the occasion Vasanthi Rao Koradkal – Director of Udupi Santhwana Mahila Sahayavani Centre and also Secretary of United District Mahila Mandala joined them in the celebration. Upon inaugurating the program she said that, there is traditional significance for every celebration, festival and the games of Tulunadu. But this is slowly diminishing now with the influence of the western culture. It is the responsibility of the elders to make awareness of Tulu culture among the children. To inform the young generation about the healthy lifestyle, food habits and other activities which have been practiced by our ancestors, these kinds of programs should be conducted on regular basis, she said.
The program began with Tulu prayers by Kumari Meghashree. Kusuma Shenoy welcomed the guests and the gathering. Secretary Malathi Moodittaya briefed on the achievements of Mahila Mandala. Vasanthi Gopal gave introductory speech. Veena Kuthyary compeered the program. Sukanya Shetty proposed vote of thanks. Grand delicious meal prepared at homes with various dishes was organized.
