Mangalore: KORWA Donates Groceries to Jeevadaan HIV/AIDS Centre

Mangalore, 13 Aug 2013: The members of Konkani Overseas Returnees Welfare Association (KORWA) paid a visit to Jeevadaan HIV/AIDS Centre located at Gurpur – Kaikamba, near here on Monday August 12.
KORWA donated groceries to the authorities of Jeevadaan on the occasion. Besides, distributed goodies to AIDS children and shared their joy.
Jeevadaan, the care and support center for HIV/AIDS is a non profit organization established by the society of the Daughters of St Camillus. The Cenre was established on February 2 2004 as a non profit organization with the primary objective of providing residential care for HIV/AIDS infected women and girl children and facilitate community care. It can accommodate 50 inpatients at a time. It provides good treatment, nutrition, medical care, counseling, vocational training. It helps the patient to regain their health, confidence, self esteem and rejoin the larger community as productive and influential member of the society.
The center is situation at the limits of Gurpur gram panchayat at Kaikamba on the outskirts of Mangalore city on national highway 13 between Mangalore – Moodbidri. The focal point of Institute is mainly to cater to abandoned and destitute women with their children who are infected by HIV/AIDS. Jeevadaan care and support centre has become an abode of life for many HIV infected women together with their children taking into consideration the need of children not to be separated from their mothers care, love and protection. Following the death of their mothers, the child is usually not accepted by their family members. Therefore, Jeevadaan, the life-giving centre as the name indicates is committed to enable these children to attain holistic and sustainable growth in secure conditions and to be productive members of the community.
At present, there are 43 inmates; 20 women and 23 children. Jeevadaan care and support center has an abode of life for many HIV infected women and children. Children are send to the nearby schools to continue their studies.
