Mumbai policeman set on fire by auto driver dies

Mumbai, 03 November 2010: A traffic policeman who was set on fire by an angry auto rickshaw driver in full public view on Thursday, succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday.
Constable Anil Aitodekar had taken action against the auto rickshaw driver Mahendra Kevat for not following traffic norms, police said. He booked the auto driver for a traffic violation in Vasai.
Eyewitnesses say the driver, poured petrol on the policeman and set him ablaze on the road. Anil had sustained 50 per cent burns. However, the accused has been arrested and is facing a charge of attempt to murder.
Now that the policeman has succumbed to his injuries, the auto driver could be facing a charge of murder.
