Remains of Ancient Temple found near Chitpadi Beedinagudde

Udupi, 18 January 2011: Remains of ancient temple were found near Chitpadi Beedinagudde area at Udupi. At the stem of a Ranje tree; Panipeeta, Somasoothra, columns and tiles were found which were used for temple.

 

The original owner of this land Dr. Gopalakrishna Ballal Chitpadi arrived to this site and viewed these remains. He assumed it to be Bramhalingeshwara temple as he had heard from his father that his great grand father was talking about this temple. He has also heard that Theertha Prasada used to come annually to this temple from Anantheshwara temple of Udupi. He also said that many a times there is mention of Astamangala questions about this.

 

 

Murugesh, Shridhar Bhat and Prashanth who are doing the research at this site since 2 – 3 days are in the opinion that this is a Shaiva temple built about 6 – 7 centuries ago. Seeing the tiles it seems that this has been renovated once again.

 

Nithyananda Volakadu who does the social work, heard from some of his friends that many people who purchased land in the surrounding areas were facing some troubles. Curios on this matter he surveyed these areas and found these remains of the temple.

 

This place is located behind Bedinagudde dumping yard and now it has become a place of curious visitors. Many people are visiting this place to view these remains of ancient temple.
