M’lore: Mount Carmel Central School organized silent protest march against atrocities on women

Mangalore, 04 Jan 2013: In solidarity with all our country men and in particular the women of our nation, Mount Carmel Central School, Maryhill, Mangalore organized a Prayer Meet and Silent Protest March against atrocities committed on women and young girls on Friday, 4th of January 2013. The parents of the school, the staff and students of neighbouring Infant Jesus Hr. Pry School and Vijaymari Technical Institute joined us.
All assembled on the school grounds at 8.45 am, where a minute’s silence was observed in memory of the brave young girl, victim of the Delhi gang rape, followed by a short prayer service conducted by the students of Mount Carmel. The guest speaker, the renowned social activist of Mangalore Mrs. Vidya Dinakar addressed the gathering saying that when we feel the inner March within us towards social issues like this, the external protest march will be meaningful and bring about social change that we desire. She urged all present to continue to raise voice against such atrocities, fighting for the protection of women’s dignity.
The students along with their teachers and parents marched in silence holding placards with various captions on women up to Padavinangady, Bondel, where a street play on women’s issues enacted by the students of Infant Jesus Hr. Pry School attracted the crowd in support of the school’s movement. Mr. Prashant Naik from the crowd commended the efforts taken by the 3 schools for this urgent and needed cause. At the end the Principal thanked all who participated and supported the cause, specially the local leader Mr. Rudy Pinto, police personnel of Kavoor and media people.
