Mumbai, 6 Aug 2013: Janet Lawrence D’Souza was appointed as vice chairperson of Maharashtra state Minority Commission by Mumbai Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president Professor Janardhan C Chandurkar, here on Tuesday August 6. Janet L D’Souza is the first women in Maharashtra to get the coveted post.
Janet is the daughter of Celine D’Silva, hailing from Kirem – Kinnigoli in Mangalore taluk of Dakshina Kannada (DK) district. Celine served as finance minister during the reign of the former CM Vasant Dada Patil, tourism and social welfare minister during the reign of the former CM Shivajirao Nirangekar. Janet has served in National Congress Party for many years in different capacities.
AICC president Sonia Gandhi, vice president Rahul Gandhi, chief secretary (Maharashtra in-charge) Mohan Prakash, CM Pratviraj Chavan congratulated MPCC for appointing Janet as vice chairperson of Maharashtra state Minority Commission, said Professor Chandurkar.
Janet is the chairperson of Celine D’Silva Foundation who has contested as Congress-NCP-RPI united candidate from Ghatkopar (West) legislative assembly constituency in the last elections.
