Mangalore, 02 Aug 2013: Fraudsters cheated a village woman to the tune of Rs 3.07 lakh by sending her message that she is the winner of British lottery that carries a huge prize amount of Rs 5 crore pounds.
Silvia Fernandes, a resident of Kinnigoli, stated in her complaint filed at Mulky police station that she has been cheated by unknown persons. Police sources said that Silvia received an SMS few days ago with the message that she is the winner of British lottery. Later, the fraudsters asked her to pay fund transfer and other charges on various occasions. She paid to the tune of Rs 3,07,333 from branches of Karnataka Bank, Syndicate Bank, State Bank of India and Bank of Baroda to fraudsters.
Later, when she did not get response, Silvia filed a complaint. Police sources said that the case will be handed over to the cyber cell, if they fail to find clue about fraudsters through local investigation.
