Uttarakhand chopper crash: Darryl Castelino from Kinnigoli dies


 

Mangalore, 26 Jun 2013: Darryl Castelino, who was the wing commander of the crashed Mi-17 V5 IAF chopper during rescue mission in flood-hit Uttarakhand on Tuesday June 25, died in the rescue operation.

 

 

The chopper crash claimed all 20 lives on board. Among them, five were from Indian Air Force, including Darryl Castelino, six from ITBP and rest from National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA).

 

Darryl, was from Kinnigoli, and later he shifted to Mumbai with his family. Darryl was married to Jyothi and the couple have a son, Ethan and a daughter, Angelina.

 

He served the IAF as wing commander and was posted in Kolkata at the time of the tragedy.

 

The others persons from IAF who lost their lives in the air crash were Flt Lt K Praveen, Flt Lt Tapan Kapoor, JWO AK Singh and Sgt Sudhakar Yadav. The chopper belonged to a unit from Barrackpore Air Force Station in West Bengal under the Eastern Air Command.
