Udupi, 23 Jun 2013: If the garbage disposal is not efficiently managed, it will give rise to contagious diseases. The garbage disposal should be the topmost priority of every village councils. The earnest interest of general public is essential in this regard, said state urban development minister Vinay Kumar Sorake.
The minister Sorake was speaking after inaugurating garbage disposal and peoples awareness campaign that was organized jointly by Nagarika Samiti – Shankerpura and different social welfare and voluntary organizations at Shankerpura , near here on Sunday June 23 morning.
The minister Sorake urged the people to organize such programmes across the district, since the mega campaign was able to create mass awareness on sensible disposal of garbage, urged minister Sorake.
‘The heinous act of gang rape on a medical student in Manipal has brought disgrace to coastal residents. The accused will be subjected to harsh imprisonment,’ said minister Sorake.
Katpady gram panchayat president Vinay Ballal, St John’s Pre-University college principal Fr Vincent Coelho, Madwa Vadiraj Technical Institute chairman Rahul, ICYM president Praveen Rodrigues, Inner Wheel president Leena Mendonca, Kurkal gram panchayat president Bhuvanesh Poojary, Rotary zone 3 assistant governor K R Patkar were present at the occasion.
St John’s Group of education institutions correspondent Fr Leslie D’Souza delivered the introductory address.
Shankarapura Nagarika Samiti president M G Nagendra welcomed the gathering. Rotary secretary Anthony D’Sa proposed vote of thanks. Rotary former president John Lobo compered the programme.
The members of different social welfare and voluntary organizations, students and general public gathered the pile of garbage, strewn plastic that was lying on Bantakal –Arasikatte – Kurkal – Subash Nagar Road, to create general awareness on the perils of garbage.
