Udupi, 26 May 2013: The urban development minister Vinay Kumar Sorake announced the proposal to upgrade Kaup as town panchayat.
Addressing the media persons after visiting different worship centers across Kaup legislative assembly constituency here on Saturday May 25, the minister Sorake said that Kaup legislative constituency is so vast that it needs special emphasis on infrastructural development. The proposal is under way to upgrade Kaup as town panchayat and an amount of Rs 5 lac was approved when he was MP, said minister Vinay Kumar Sorake.
The minister Sorake offered assurance of his serious efforts in introducing Bahugrama Project to ease the water crisis across the district. Under the project, every household family in each village will be provided with drinking water, said minister Sorake.
‘I am aware of environmental destruction caused by heavy industries in Udupi district. Nothing can be done on those mega industries that are already established. Meanwhile, in the future the locals’ interest will be taken care while establishing industries,’ said minister Sorake.
When the media persons queried the minister Sorake about turning Netravati River, he said that if 2,000 TMC quantum of water from the rivers of undivided Dakshina Kannada which drains into Arabian Sea is harnessed; there will not be any need for such a mega project. The focus is on harnessing the water that drains the sea, stressed minister Sorake.
