Mangalore, 5 May 2013: The assembly elections were peaceful in 8 legislative constituencies across Dakshina Kannada district, here on Sunday May 5.
Meanwhile, in one of the polling center located in Capitanio, here reported an incident wherein the students residing in a hostel nearby were restrained from voting because they were hailing from Kerala, despite their names were incorporated in the voters list and they had valid voter’s identity cards issued by Election office in the city. The election observer reported the incident to Returning Officer (RO) and was allowed to vote in security by Election Officer on the instructions from RO.
The RO and Deputy Commissioner Harsha Gupta informed this reporter that the overall voters’ turnout was 64.35 percent. Although, each polling centers recorded brisk voting till Sunday noon, it thinned in the afternoon as the soaring temperatures dissuaded people from venturing out on a holiday. However, it picked up momentum till the conclusion at 6.00pm.
