Al Ain, 09 Apr 2013: A severe 6.3 magnitude earthquake in southern Iran shocked the Arabian Gulf, jolting UAE coastal cities including Dubai, Sharjah and other emirates on Tuesday afternoon.
The epicentre of the quake is located some 280km in the north of Manama in Bahrain across the sea. It was some 10km deep into the earth and registered as a severe earthquake.
The jolts panicked people in Dubai’s high rise buildings and residents rushed out to open places and parks. No casualties and property damage have yet been reported.
The US Geological Survey confirmed the earthquake’s magnitude as 6.3. The European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre has reported another aftershock of 5.4 magnitude in the same Iranian territory.
