New suspension bridge connecting Kambala Majalu and Petri inaugurated

Udupi, 29 June 2010: In order to bring about the development of the regions inhabited by the people belonging to scheduled castes, under the cluster development programme, the suspension bridge connectiong Kambala Majalu and Petri in Kukkehalli Grama Panchayat jurisdiction  that was constructed at the cost of  20 lakhs of rupees was inaugurated by Dr. V.S. Acharya, the Home Minister in the Karnataka Government and the In-charge Minister of the Udupi District.

Speaking at the inauguration function, Dr. Acharya said that such 100 more suspension bridges would be constructed and the district officials have been asked to find out such places where such bridges are required and put up the proposal to the government. He also informed the gathering that such 11 suspension bridges have been built in the Chikmagaluru district. He made an appeal that the gram pranchayats should utilise the annual funds allotted to them for the construction of such bridges.

Speaking at this function, Udupi-Chikmagaluru Lok Sabha member, Mr. D.V. Sadananda Gowda said that it is important to identify the localities in whicih the scheduled caste people live in majority and make arrangement to provide them with roads, water supply, bridges, etc.

The function was attended by Mr. Raghupati Bhat, MLA, Udupi, Udupi Zilla Panchayat President-Mrs. Gladys D’Almeida, Member-Mr. Shankar Poojary, Mr. Gerald Fernandes, Disztrict Collector-Mrs. P. Hemlatha, Chief executive Officer of Udupi Zilla Panchayat – Mr. Rajshekhar, Cherkaadi Grama Panchayat President-Mr. Kamalaksha Bhat and others.

Mr. Lalaji R. Mendon, MLA, Kaup presided over the function and said that a road connecting Kolalgiri and Perdoor  a cost of 2.10 crore of rupees would constructed.
