Udupi, 12 May 2012: Under the guidance of Shree Laxmi Thirta of Shiroor Mut, the members of Bajarang Dal activist objected the screening of Kannada romantic fantasy film ’Kataariveera Surasundarangi’ which was running at the Jitanjali theatre on Saturday, May 12.
It is believed that the movie is in very bad taste in terms depicting Hindu Gods and this was in warned not to screen it due to these reasons.
However theatre owners did not heed for their request and Hensce Bajarang Dal activist attacked the theatre at about 10.00am and stopped selling of tickets for the first show. Due to this reason those who have come to view the movie were very disappointed.
They protested against the cast of the film Upendra, Ambarish, Ramya, and producer Muthappa Rai and torn down all the cinema posters put up outside the theatre. Even the owners requested them to stop they did not heed for their request and went on destroying posters. Sree of Shiroor was adamant and said no way this movie would be allowed to run.
Speaking to media he said “even though I have not seen the cinema, there are scenes which have shown old Gods of Hindus in very poor taste and insulted them. This will hurt sentiments of Hindus. Even though we can’t stop screening of this movie in other districts of the state, at least we can stop running in Udupi District which has religious value and Udupi being the center of Hindu religion, we will not allow screening of this movie in any condition” he said.
It is not known who gained by protesting against the movie ’Kataariveera Surasundarangi’, however this movie has become very famous. Since this movie was stopped, another kannada movie “ Mailari “ acted by Shivraj Kumar was shown instead of “ Kataariveera Surasundarangi “
