Mangalore, 15 Feb 2012: Roshan Castelino, who has been working for MRPL for the last 15 years, has been elected president of MRPL Employees Union. MRPL is the only refinery of Karnataka and has a sizeable emplyees strength.
Roshan Castelino has been actively participating in several social work activities in and around Mangalore for many years. He is the president of Sparsha Social Service Centre, Mangalore which extends its services to the youth in counselling and provides guidance to them irrespective of caste, creed, race or religion.
He is also the management committee member of Link De-Addiction Centre, Mangalore, that treats alcoholics, drug addicts and helps their rehabilitation, He has been helping the children of HIV affected families, through ‘Hongirana’ network and through Sparsha.
Roshan is also the honorary president of an organization called NEST (North East Students Team) comprising students of Assam, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Tripura and other North Eastern states studing in Mangalore. He was the former state president of ICYM, Karnataka and presently he is in the state core committee member of IFKCA, which is headed by NRI businessman Ronald Colaco.
He is also the core committee member of ‘Netravati Ulisi Horata Samiti’, which has been fighting against the proposed diversion of Netaravati River towards northern districts. He has been actively participating in various leadership positions of MRPL Trade Union Movement and has always been a strong supporter of the causes of Project Land Displaced Employees. He has been instrumental in establishing the Contract Labour Trade Union Movement in MRPL and his leadership qualities and capabilities have been appreciated by many.
