Udupi, 6 April 2010: The digital movie directed by Prakash Suvarna Katapadi titled ‘Bhagya’ in Tulu language that is based on the real life of a fisherwoman is complete and its release is eagerly awaited. This movie is being produced by Disha Communications which has already won Unisef Prasarbharathi Chitra Prashasthi for its earlier movies.
‘Bhagya’ that has been filmed near the Maple port, Kaup beach and the sea shore of Padukere is the presentation of the real life story of a fisherwoman. This digital movie throws light on the life of the fisher folk and their adventurous fishing activities. The poverty of the people living in the fishing villages and its reason-drunkardness and illiteracy, is being explored in the movie.
The central theme of the movie is that, the fisher woman named Bhagya, though crossed the marriageable age had to set aside her wishes and desires because of poverty and lack of education and work hard as a fish seller so that she can support her family. The sufferings of Bhagya are unending due to a drunkard father, wayward younger sister, the tragic death of her mother by drowning while searching for shell-fish and irresponsibility of the elder brother who mortgages the house because of his drunkardness. Besides these family problems, Bhagya has to face physical and mental torture in the society. Unable to bear all these sufferings, Bhagya tries to kill herself by jumping into the sea.
This emotional and heart wrenching story of Bhagya in the background of the natural settings of the fishing port, sea shores and fishing villages has been diligently and sensitively handled by Prakash Suvarna Katapadi, the director of this digital movie. He has taken all care to present this realistic story with sensitivity and using modern digital technology.
Produced by Francis D’Sa of Shankerpura, ‘Bhagya’ Tulu digital movie has given opportunity to many upcoming talents in Udupi and Dakshina Kannada region. The original story of the movie was written by Raju B. Thonse. Prakash Suvarna Katapadi has written the screen play and has taken the responsibility of directing the movie. Rohit Malpe has provided the music. The young cameraman, Sandeep has captured the natural settings of the Maple port and the sea shores as well as the ethos of the fishing villages and the life of the people there in. Art direction is done by Ramesh Kidiyuru. Besides these, a number of people have worked hard to complete this digital movie by handling successfully other aspects of movie making.
Sujatha Shetty as Bhagya has done justice to the role by her brilliant performance. Other actors and actresses who have given natural performance in the movie include: Leeladhar Shetty Kaup, Sanjeeva Salian Kadekar, Suresh Yermal, Kavitha Polipu, Jalaja Nayak, Sukanya Heroor, Harish Bantakal, Avinash Udupi, Savitha Bantwala, Yashasvi Thonse, Sanjeeva Suvarna, Gokul Das Kamath, Shaila G.Kamath, Sathish Amin, Bhaskar Manipal, Nagesh Kamath, Madhavi Manjunath, Prakash Shetty Hebri, Uday Kumar Shetty Hebri, Shekar Pangal, Sudhakar Suvarna, Sathish Darmhasthala, Prabhakar Acharya, Jagadish Kottari and Keerthi Mangalore.
Though ‘Bhagya’ is produced in the Tulu language, it will be provided with English sub-titles so that this digital movie can be presented in national and international Film Festivals.
